How I overcame serious health issues naturally

by in Articles, Blog July 5, 2024

When I was 24, newly married, I was diagnosed with many health issues (irritable bowel syndrome, endometriosis, asthma, and breast cancer). I went to allopathic doctors who prescribed many pharmaceuticals, tests, and no real encouragement to rid my body of the pain and health issues. I was only getting worse day by day.

Fortunately, the massage therapist I had at the time gave me the name of an herbalist in Utah, I was living in California at the time. I called the herbalist, and she asked me if I was ready to get healthy. YES, I was! We spoke for a bit on the phone, and she sent me a box of supplements and told me how to change my diet. This was someone I had just met on the phone, but it felt as if she was being honest. I could tell she was truly trying to help me, and this wasn’t a scam as it took me several days to get a hold of her again just to pay my bill.

Within a week, my pain had gone, and I naively thought I was “cured”. That following week, I remember eating some chocolate dessert on the counter, and once again, I was in pain and sick. Did diet make that much difference in my health? Now, I had majored in medical technology in school, studied hematology, organic chemistry, human anatomy & physiology but this was new information for me.

It was like I had been hit by a 2×4. Duh, I thought. I cleaned out my cupboards of all the foods the herbalist had mentioned not to eat and changed my diet dramatically. Taking the supplements she recommended, I once again got rid of my pain, and gradually my health issues disappeared.

I remember going back to the medical doctor a year later, showing him my blood work. And his only comment was that the drugs cured me. What? I hadn’t taken the drugs in over a year. I had changed my diet and only took what my herbalist gave me. It felt like he didn’t care and didn’t want to admit that his medicine didn’t help me. It is so sad that the medical community is so focused on drugs instead of empowering people to actually get healthy.

Because of my own health experiences, I wanted to help others. So I focused on learning more, including being educated as a Traditional Naturopathic Doctor, a Mental Health Therapist, and Master Herbalist. I have been fortunate to work with thousands of clients worldwide. I am very grateful for all my clients’ bodies have taught me.

I rarely visit allopathic doctors and prefer chiropractors, acupuncturists, and other natural healers. I work hard to listen to my body, hear what it is trying to tell me, give it what it needs, avoid what it doesn’t, and use the many tools I have discovered to keep myself as healthy as possible. Unfortunately, this is very challenging to do today.

Health Challenges

a- There are billions of dollars of marketing coming at us to eat foods that are not good for us. Including alcohol, sugar/artificial sweeteners, preservatives, rancid/toxic oils, and packaged foods.

b- We are creating environments in our bodies for organisms that are thousands of years old and more intelligent than science acknowledges. They often control our actions and thoughts, leading to more poor health choices.

c -We are not taught to love ourselves from a young age but rather to fit into the proverbial box. This creates fear and confusion, so people focus on fitting in with what others are eating/drinking in an attempt to feel connection/acceptance.

Few health rules I follow for myself:

1- I don’t talk about my health issue — the more you talk about something, the more you feed it. I choose to talk about how healthy and strong my body is and how it can overcome/correct any challenges I may be facing. If I am constantly saying “my diabetes”, or “my intestinal problem,” — I am owning it as a part of me and giving it life. I choose to acknowledge the issue, deal with it in whatever way is needed, learn from it (if necessary), and let it go. Many inspiring stories of others online focus on what they want to be doing instead of being controlled by their words and the illness they faced.

2- I know that if I hang onto emotional baggage, I will create health issues in my body — when I have a health issue, I look up the issue in the following books for insight on what my body is trying to tell me. Feelings Buried Alive by Karol Truman and Messages From the Body by Narayan-Singh. Armed with this information, I can acknowledge what my body is experiencing and do what I can to move the emotions off myself or address them as needed. My clients and I have experienced profound and often quick results using these tools.

3- I know that my body can repair pretty much any issue if I focus on seeing my body repair the problem and provide whatever is necessary for the healing actually to happen. Society taught us over many years that our bodies cannot repair brain cells. Recent science has proven that is not true. I believe that any part of our body can be regenerated if we can see it happening and provide whatever is necessary for it to happen. We know that the liver can rebuild itself in several weeks, and I have had several clients who told me they had rebuilt teeth, thyroid, etc.; out of the blue, these items regenerated — some with my help, but most were before I worked with these clients. The body is truly amazing!

I was diagnosed with 2 herniated disks several years ago (Yes, I went to a medical doctor in Mexico). I knew what to do to correct the issue, and it hadn’t bothered me till last week. Once again was in pain, but fortunately I knew what to do to overcome the issue and was up and walking again in a few days without pain. In this case, the underlying problem for me was different, but regardless, it was fixable.

Allopathic Medicine is One Tool

One of my friends is a skydiver. Several years ago, she landed incorrectly on a jump and broke her back. She called me and asked if she should take the pain medication. YES! Take the medication! That is what it is for! It is a tool to be used as needed. Doctors told her she would never walk again, but with her determination and natural health tools, she now hikes several miles every day.

Knowing what I know now, I find it saddening to watch others hang onto their diseases. I could mention several other Medium.com writers who benefit from their illnesses by writing about them continuously. There is very little encouragement to let go of their diseases and be healthier. Why should they? What is the advantage of being healthy if they are getting attention from being sick? Now that I worked so hard to get on the other side of illness, I cannot imagine being sick again.
