Recently I have several friends and clients who have injuries.

I have had injuries in the past also, torn up my left knee skiing many years ago, and broke my right foot/ankle in karate just to name a few.

It sucks.

Slows us down from our lives and it hurts!!

Depending on your pain tolerance this can be a huge issue. With challenges around pain medication in our society currently, and even over the counter medication can do damage to our livers — it makes this even harder. Once you get checked out by your health professional, and regardless if it is broken or not, there are many natural options to help the body heal and recover faster.

Underlying Emotions

The first thing I do and recommend to my clients is to look at the underlying emotional issues for that part of the body/injury. We are human beings after all and having emotions is part of the human experience! Allowing our body to communicate with us is so important! There is information buried in our body and when we listen to it, it can empower us beyond our imagination.

There are many books now that discuss this in depth which I mention often in my articles, however this is becoming so much more prevalent now you don’t need to buy a book.

You can just do a basic web search — something like “underlying emotion for left ankle” or “underlying spiritual meaning for broken bones”.

You may be surprised at all the different things that pop up.

My recommendation to clients is to read through what you see and see what resonates for you most.

This is how our body communicates with us.

It can’t tap us on the shoulder and say “Hey — don’t eat that fast food, or Hey — you have been drinking a lot of soda lately and it’s eating up your bones, or internally your body is stressed and you aren’t breathing enough, so we are going to slow you down to get your attention.”

We have buried emotions in our tissues from our childhood and ancestors. They often manifest as health issues if not addressed at some point in our lives. Yes, unfortunately if our ancestors didn’t do their work to resolve their difficult lives, all those memories can be contained within us to acknowledge and work through. Unresolved energy is a thing.

The truth about our childhood is stored up in our body,

and although w can repress it, we can never alter it.

Our intellect can be deceived, our feelings manipulated,

our perceptions confused, and our body tricked with medication.

But some day the body will present its bill,

for it is as incorruptible as a child

who, still who in spirit,

it will accept no compromises or excuses,

and it will not tormenting us

until we stop evading the truth.

Once the underlying emotions are identified it is amazing how fast healing can shift into gear. In addition to emotional work, here are some additional tools to try:

Diet and pH

When my son was in 4th grade he was in the science fair. The experiment he did for the fair was on pH — (presence of Hydrogen). He took an whole egg in the shell and put one in water in a jar, one in vinegar and one in apple juice and left it 24 hours. The egg in water and apple juice did nothing, but the shell of the egg in vinegar dissolved. Vinegar is acidic and dissolves calcium. When our bodies get acidic from stressful emotions, and acidic foods, we create a similar environment in our body causing inflammation and an environment that can weaken bones and tissues. You can read more about pH here. Suffice to say you are either nourishing your body to be healthy or strong, or you are creating an environment for illness and injury.

Helpful natural tools

Enzymes

Enzymes are building blocks of our tissues. They help repair tissue, digest our food, neutralize toxins and hold calcium in our bones. Enzymes can be purchased in capsules which can be helpful, but spraying them on topically is truly amazing, especially for injuries. I had 2 herniated disks several years back, and spraying enzymes on topically help to stop the pain and prevent them from getting worse. And my clients have found amazing results with topical enzymes to help heal injuries quickly, and aid in pain. For pain it is recommended to spray on every 10 minutes, till pain lessons, then ever 30 minutes, every hour, then 2–3 times a day as needed for your pain level.

Arnica & Calendula

Arnica is a plant that is popular in topical gels/creams and is great for pain. You can also purchase it in homeopathic tablet form to help with pain. You can use it as often as needed safely.

Calendula comes from the marigold flowers and is great for bruising and inflammation. I used to be able to purchase a cream that had both Arnica and Calendula in it and was amazing for all kinds of injuries — but now I purchase them separately and use them together after I spray enzymes on topically.

Vitamin C

One of the most amazing nutrients we can take is Vitamin C. It boosts our immune system, helps the body repair and can be helpful to take during injuries and illness, especially if surgery or medication is used, as it can help with cleansing the liver and preventing constipation. You can purchase it in powders, pills, even chewable tablets. Be sure to read the label as often unnecessary ingredients are added, such as sugar, fillers and binders which are not there to make you healthy and detract from that by making your tissues more toxic. One of the gentlest forms of Vitamin C is Camu Camu. It is a fruit from South America that is rich in Vitamin C and gentle on the body.

Comfrey

Comfrey is an herb that is known as the bone knitter. When I was training as an herbalist, a man came to see my mentor as he had somehow got his leg stuck in a tractor. He had gone to the hospital and they said they were going to need to remove his legs and he made the decision to see my mentor instead. One of the things we used was the comfrey leaves from her yard to wrap around his leg and help it to heal. His legs were not pretty, but they did heal and he was able to walk again with her assistance. Using comfrey topically in poultices, baths or creams can be very helpful for injuries.

My learning — Note to self:

Don’t create an injury/sickness to get attention, just ask for what you need.

Magnesium

Magnesium can be very helpful for muscle injuries, you can learn more about this amazing mineral here.

There are many other plants and nutrients that can help with inflammation and wound healing, such as White Willow Bark, Chamomile, Yucca, and Mangosteen just to name a few. And remember to support your adrenals as that can help significantly in relieving pain. B vitamins and adaptogenic herbs such as Suma, Eleuthero, or Astragalus can also be beneficial, giving your body something to pull from to assist in healing. Check with your health professional to see what might be best for your situation.

Sending light to you to rapidly heal any injuries you are experiencing.
