Natural Health Tips for Thinning Hair
Recently a client of mine asked if my hair was thinning. I hadn’t noticed it; I think it was how my hair was styled that day from waking up and doing nothing with it. What can I say? I am lazy sometimes. 🙂 My hair is very thin, but I have a lot of it. Regardless I figured it wasn’t a bad thing to make sure that my body could make hair effectively. Checking in on my body status is something I regularly do to make sure it is where I want it to be. Below is what I focused on to ensure my body was building my hair.
Digestion — I know my diet is better than most people’s, but there is always room for improvement. Revisiting what I was eating, how much, how often, how nutritious and how toxic is always a good thing. I eliminated a few things and brought in a few quality foods that I had dropped out of my meal rotation for whatever reason. It’s not rocket science to figure out what foods are beneficial to our bodies and what are toxic. Doing our best not to lie to ourselves about this is valuable. Yes, I can eat something bad, but I am the only one that will experience any bad results healthwise. Every time we eat, we get to choose what goes in our mouths. The results either feed us optimally or make us feel bad and create illness.
Enzymes — Many of my articles talk about enzymes. I often talk about enzymes because they are essential for digestion, elimination, and repairing of cells in our bodies. We get enzymes from raw foods, but you can also purchase them. There are many types of enzymes; enzymes that help digest fats, milk products, or carbs. Not all enzyme products are the same; some are better than others, but knowing where your body is at enzymatically and which enzymes would be best can help you reach your health goals faster.
Popular enzymes are Bromelain, and Papain and you should see other words ending in -ase — such as lipase, protease, amylase, etc. The suffix refers to the fact it is an enzyme. We only have so many enzymes in our body based on our eating. Taking enzymes can aid your body in many ways, including helping digestion. There are many enzyme formulas, it is best to work with a natural health professional to find the best one to work with your body so you don’t waste your money or your time and get optimal results.
Absorption — just because you are taking enzymes and eating well doesn’t mean you are absorbing food optimally. There are a few simple reasons that could be causing this:
Hiatal Hernia — Almost every person I have ever worked with who has a significant illness has had a Hiatal Hernia. The only way our stomach can communicate with us is to cause us pain or create a condition to get our attention. If we don’t have a problem, why would we change? Something needs to nudge us to eliminate our bad habits. You can read more about this issue in this article. Fortunately the chiropractor I see checks for Hiatal Hernia’s on everyone to ensure that peoples basic plumbing is working.
Small Intestine — In the small intestine, we have little villi. These tiny finger-shaped structures increase the surface area for optimal nutrient absorption. When we make poor food choices and don’t chew our food well, the villi are damaged, preventing us from optimally absorbing our food. So making better food choices and chewing your food well can help immensely. In addition, there are valuable tools to help clean up the small intestine for better absorption. The herb marshmallow and the enzyme Pepsin taken together is one beneficial tool recommended.
Fountain of Youth Exercises — There is a book with this title that I read many years ago. In the book, the writer talks about the man doing the exercises and how his hair changed, growing back, changed color, etc. These are energetic exercises working on polarity and the body’s energy fields. They are very powerful. It is best to do them daily, but being human, they dropped off my regular schedule for a while, so I started doing them again. In addition to doing these exercises, I have also found acupuncture very useful in balancing organs and systems in my body so they are working optimally.
Vitamins & Minerals — I do not often take or recommend multivitamins. Most multivitamins on the market are not very good. I wouldn’t even give them to my dog. Here is an article I wrote on how to choose a multivitamin for best results. However, for hair thinning issues, taking a quality multivitamin can be beneficial. Remember, if you are not digesting or absorbing your food or are deficient in enzymes, the multivitamin probably isn’t going to be very useful.
Organisms — Another cause of thinning hair is organisms; typically parasites, fungus or virus’. If your body isn’t able to build hair correctly, an issue maybe that something else is getting your nutrients. If you are creating an environment for organisms, they have no reason to leave, and they will continue to take your nutrients as long as you are feeding them.
Underlying emotions — When there is an issue in our body, there is almost always an underlying emotion, a communication that our body is trying to tell us. This is explained in many Chinese medicine books. The underlying emotion for hair loss has to do with being unflexible and relying on others instead of using your own person power to feel safe. The Feelings Buried Alive Never Die by Karol Kahn Truman and Messages From the Body by Michael Lincoln are two books that are very helpful in working out these issues.
Hair Products — Finally, what products are you using on your hair. Something that nourishes the scalp and hair, or one that removes valuable oils or contains toxins that your body has to flush? Finding natural hair products is fairly easy today. Check out health food stores, or local farmer’s markets. And be sure to read the label. If you don’t know what any ingredients are, you probably don’t want to use the product.
