How to Stop Aging Naturally
Yes, this is me. Yes, I will be 60 years old this year, and no, I don’t wear makeup and don’t have wrinkles. I take care of my body, and here are some basic things I do regularly to keep aging at bay.
You are what you eat, and it shows on your skin.
If you are serious about being healthy and looking younger, the first place to focus on is your diet. I do my best to avoid dairy, sugar, and wheat. I eat grass-fed meats, seafood, vegetables, nuts/seeds, & minimal fruit. When you feed your body optimally, your body can spend time repairing tissues instead of focusing on eliminating toxins. Where do you want the energy to go? Your body only has so much energy to spend each day. It can be focused on removing toxins or repairing skin — your choice.
Enzymes
Enzymes are essential building blocks that help repair tissues, neutralize toxins, and hold calcium in our our bodies. Every time you eat raw food, you are getting enzymes. If you have a carrot and snap the carrot, you hear the enzymes holding onto the molecules. The enzymes will die if you cook the carrot or let it sit in your fridge for a few weeks. Enzymes are good for digestion but can also be used topically on the skin. There are several enzyme products available on the market. Popular enzymes are Bromelain, Papain and you should see other words ending in -ase — such as lipase, protease, amylase, etc. The suffix refers to the fact it is an enzyme. We only have so many enzymes in our body, based on how we eat. Adding in enzymes can help your body in many ways, including helping your skin. There are many enzyme formulas, it is best to work with a natural health professional to find the best one to work with your body, so you don’t waste your money or your time and get optimal results.
In addition to taking enzymes internally, I also use an enzyme spray daily on my skin which I know helps keep my skin looking young.
Exercise
If a body exercises and moves each day, it keeps the cells from being stagnant. If you are not moving your body, it is dying faster than if you are moving it. I walk 2–5 miles every day, and I can’t imagine not doing it now. I remember a time when I refused to exercise. I felt like crap most of the time. I had a lot of resistance to getting out and walking. It is truly a mindset. Getting outside, connecting with nature, getting fresh air, there are so many benefits, physical, mental and spiritual to walking. There truly is no downside and only benefits all around for you. It flushes your lymph system, helping your skin naturally detox, it moves keeps your bowels moving so you have fewer toxins for your body to have to work to flush, and it helps circulation, getting nutrients to your skin to repair.
Fountain of Youth Exercises/Tibetan Rites
There is a book with this title that I read many years ago. When I first started doing these exercises, it was challenging for me. Some were easy, and others were hard. They are energetic exercises working on polarity and the body’s energy fields. They are very powerful. One of my friends often comments that when she does them, things in her life are better for her than when she doesn’t. I notice this, as well as do many of my other customers. You can read a whole story in the book about where this all started and how they work. There are five exercises, and it only takes me about 10 minutes to do them now since I have been doing them for many years now. It is best to do them in sets of 3 when starting. So 3 of each exercise working up to 21 of each exercise daily.
Vibration Plate
Shaker/vibration machines have been popular for the past several years since they are often used in gyms and used in space programs to help maintain astronauts’ bone density. I have owned three different ones in the past several years, but my current machine, the Hypervibe is definitely my favorite. Using the device to do exercises allows me to do more exercise in less time. There is an app on my phone that was a little hard to get used to, but it has video examples of each exercise, and I can choose which exercises I want. There are beginner and advanced programs and programs specifically for flushing the lymph system, weight loss, recovery, and aging. If you are interested in purchasing a Hypervibe, let me know, and I can send you a 10% off coupon.
Raw eggs
A few years ago, I started eating raw eggs each day. I am not exactly sure why I started doing this, something I had read most likely. I didn’t think anything about it, but I noticed a huge difference in my skin tone after a few weeks. It was much tighter, and although I don’t have many wrinkles, I noticed a big difference in my skin elasticity and how much younger my skin looked. I stopped eating them for a while and saw this reversed, so I am again on raw eggs. Although the absorption of protein is less from eating raw eggs, my guess is the enzymes and other properties that help the skin be tauter. I am sticking with it as I see results. Keep in mind you want to use only free-range organic eggs. It is even better if you can get them fresh from a farm.
Infrared Light Therapy
Infrared Light Therapy has been around for a while, sold in high-end stores, and used by estheticians to help heal and repair the skin. There are many on the market, and some are very expensive. Here is one that is fairly affordable. Infrared LED helps activate skin cells, enhance cell metabolism, accelerate the repair of damaged skin cells and stimulate collagen production. It treats fine lines, wrinkles, and crow’s feet and makes your skin younger looking. It is non-invasive with no side effects. I don’t use mine every day, but a few times during the week on areas of concern and typically notice a difference within a few hours.
Oils
The thing to remember with oils is that they go rancid, and some are more beneficial to our bodies than others. I use only coconut oil, ghee/butter, and cold-pressed olive oil for cooking. Topically on my skin, I use coconut oil, olive oil (yes, it is great to feed the skin), and I also use sesame oil topically to prevent crepe skin.
As far as essential oils, I am very picky as most essential oils on the market are adulterated and contain toxins, defeating the whole purpose of using them. Some essential oils that I use are lavender, rosemary, and helichrysum oil, referred to as the everlasting plant. I make a face spray with the enzymes mentioned above, and I add in neroli and helichrysum and spray my face with this every day when I get out of the shower. I use a neutral lotion afterward and nothing else. I also make an oil mix that I use in the shower that contains sunflower, sesame, and coconut oils, and I add in lavender, rosemary, and neroli and rub on my arms, neck, and chest to keep the skin taut.
Retail Skin Products
I don’t use any popular retail skin products on my face. Most of these products are expensive, toxic, and don’t really work. I use a natural oil-based wash that works well for my skin. Simple nature is the best.
